Kota Kinabalu: A 66-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a Proton Iswara vehicle while crossing the road near the Anjung Selera food court along Likas Bay, here, Thursday. It was learnt that Laja Timuk, from Kg Gentisan in Sepanggar, worked as a caretaker for a boat docked near the coastal area in Likas.

A witness claimed that it was his normal routine to go buy food at the food court for the breaking of fast before returning to the boat across the road, adding that they referred to him simply as 'pakcik'.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Proton driver, who was heading towards the Kuala Menggatal direction from the city centre, claimed she could not avoid the man who suddenly dashed across the road in the 5.30pm accident.

The impact caused him to sustain severe bodily injuries, killing him on the spot.

Personnel from the Civil Defence Department and paramedics from the Likas Hospital arrived soon after receiving a distress call from passersby.
