Kota Kinabalu: Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin has urged Malaysians in Sabah to continue upholding unity to ensure perpetual peace and stability. On the political front, he said, the cordial relationship between the State Barisan Nasional (BN) government and its Federal counterpart had contributed to the political stability currently enjoyed in Sabah.

Despite facing various challenges and obstacles as well as challenging situations, the State government with assistance from the Federal Government had successfully fulfilled most of its promises and goals in the developing the State, he said.

"The peace and good governance of the State Government has not only united the races and sub-ethnic groups in the State but also stimulated economic growth as well as brought the State's development to a higher level," he said in his 51st Malaysia Day message.

He was thankful that every issue and challenge could be overcome diplomatically and democratically based on the principle of upholding the constitution and rule of law. The communities in Sabah comprising 32 ethnic groups is the best model of how a plural society can live together peacefully in full tolerance, he said, adding that other countries had also made Malaysia a model of multi-racial peace.

"The differences of religions, culture and traditions have not prevented unity in diversity É directly making the people more open-minded and preventing the spread of narrow ideology among the community," he said.

Juhar said the diverse culture and religions in the State coupled with the strong unity is the strength that had allowed for the political stability and economy. In this context, this is Sabah's contribution to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, he said the Government appreciates the role of the 'Y" generation or younger generation as the future leaders of the State's development. Towards this end, the Government would continue to focus and have continuous engagement with the younger generation so that they would become creative, innovative and productive.

Juhar also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and Cabinet ministers for their excellent service in leading the government's halatuju.

He also thanked the security forces for continuing to be on the alert to ensure the sovereignty of the State and country is protected at all times.
