KOTA KINABALU: Sutera Harbour's annual Patron's Cup Golf Tournament, held in honour of the Patron of Sutera Habour, Marina, Golf and Country Club (SHMGCC), is now elevated to a beneficence event called the Patron's Charity Cup and will tee-off on October 19. SHMGCC General Manager, Rick Blackie said that the new management of Sutera Harbour Resort has unanimously agreed to make the most out of the popular event to give back to the community through selected beneficiaries.

"The Patron's Charity Cup will be an addition to the many other Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts organised by the Resort, in line with our Core Values - Community Involvement.

"This change was also consented by the Patron himself, Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin," said Blackie during a press conference, Thursday. Proceeds from the event, including a "blind auction" will be donated to the Nur Jauhar Foundation, which was established in 2012 by Juhar and his consort Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni.

The Patron's Charity Cup will still continue its tradition of having a golf tournament in the morning and followed by a prize presentation gala dinner in the evening.

"We are expecting some 200 amateur golfers to participate in the tournament, which will be in accordance to the Rules of Amateur Status issued by the R&A and with valid golf insurance only and about 900 people for the gala dinner at the Grand Ballroom of The Magellan Sutera.

"The tournament is a team event based on Gross Two-Ball-Stroke Play while the Nett Team event is based on System 36 Handicapping on the day Handicap and divided by two after combining two players' handicaps," he added.

Team Event is defined as two competitors play as partners, each playing his own ball and the lower score of the partners is the score for the hole.

The team with the lowest gross score over 18 holes will be declared the champion and will be awarded the Patron's Charity Cup.

This year's Patron's Charity Cup will be played at the Lakes & Garden Course at SHMGCC with two shotgun starts at 7.30am and 1pm.

As usual, the tournament offers lucrative prizes including a Volvo V40 T4, valued at RM176,888 sponsored by Angkatan Hebat Sdn Bhd as a Hole-In-One prize for Hole 2.

Other Hole-In-One prizes include RM10,000 cash for two holes sponsored by Cahaya Pack (M) Sdn Bhd, One Term Golf Membership worth RM12,000 sponsored by SHMGCC, one Yamaha Inpress RMX NSPRO Iron Set and Yamaha Y13CBA cart bag valued at RM6,6790 sponsored by MST Golf.

Fees are set at RM450 per golfer for members and RM550 for non-members, inclusive of one ticket to the prize presentation gala dinner and registration ends on October 13 at 5pm.

Before the dinner, there will also be a blind auction at the foyer of the ballroom where guests could bid for four photographs taken by the Head of State himself and two cruise packages sponsored by Star Cruise Travel Services (M) Sdn Bhd.

Guests at the dinner will also be entertained by popular Indonesian diva, Krisdayanti.
