SANDAKAN: Malaysia stands to further boost its ties among other members of the Asean Forum following its presence at the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Meet (Aipa) recently. The Malaysian delegates of eight MPs was led by Beluran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee to Laos, which was the host for the Aipa this year.

Kiandee, who is also an active member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, also chaired the Executive Committee Meeting and made the closing address.

Each year lawmakers from the Asean bloc countries converge for the Aipa meet, which is hosted alternately by member nations, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Aipa, which was set up in 1967, about 10 years after the Asean Forum was formed, is divided in three levels, namely Executive, Plenary Conference and Committee Meeting.
