TAWAU: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) will be staging a huge protest against the abolishment of the Housing Loan Division of the Treasury (BPPPM).Its President, Azih Muda, said Cuepacs is strongly against the abolishment of the BPPPM and have it replaced with a statutory company.

This is because, there are 1.5 million government employees that could not afford to purchase a house without the assistance of the entities such as the BPPPM, he said.

The BPPPM, he said, is the only entity that takes care of the welfare of the civil servants especially in housing loans.

He said the location of the mass assembly would be notified at a later date.

On the 2015 Federal Budget, he said, Cuepacs would present a proposal to the government on how to handle pressures or obstructions faced by the civil servants in the country.

"Some of the pressures include housing rental, high cost of living and high housing prices," he said.

Azih said Cuepacs would be suggesting to the government that all 171 civil service schemes that have yet to be implemented be carried out fast.

He said Cuepacs is also suggesting that the housing rental allowance be changed to ensure civil servants continue to be productive and competitive.

He said the government should also consider the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Retirement Trust Fund involvement in housing construction for the public sector.
