Labuan shipbuilder wins global award

LABUAN: Preston Shipyard Sdn Bhd, a lesser known company involved in shipbuilding and repair here added a "huge feather to its cap" when it was awarded International Star For Quality by Business Initiative Directors BID in an impressive ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, recently.The award is part of an annual programme of BID to companies having met the criteria standard in efforts for continuous successful global networking. Preston is the first Malaysian shipyard from borneo to have achieved the global award.

Two other Malaysian companies which also received awards here – Second Bridge Sdn Bhd., builder and operator of the second Penang Bridge and the Masers Energy Energy Malaysia.

Since it was an historic occasion for these Malaysian companies to win international recognition the award presentation ceremony had the presence of Malaysian Ambassador to Switzerland, Datuk Mohd Zulkephli and Secretary-General of Public Works Department Dato Haji Zohari Akob. They were there to witness the occasion.

Preston was represented by its Managing Director Zallani Mansor and Executive Director Capt (R)Yunus Sari.

Preston was privatised from the government in 2010.

A statement issued by the company regarding the award said the three Malaysian companies selected were among the 73 throughout the world which had met the established standard of BID.
