Five illegals detained in Sulu Sea

KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) detained five illegals in a boat during a security operation in the Sulu Sea in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) on Wednesday. Sandakan RMN Base Commander, First Admiral Ahmad Abdullah, said the boat, which was detected under suspicious circumstances, was intercepted at 3.10pm. The incident took place about five nautical miles north east of Pulau Berhala and 8.2 nautical miles from the Malaysia-Philippines international border.

"An inspection team found three of the five crew, aged 21 to 28, did not have valid identification documents. Also seized were 10,700 Pesos in Philippine currency, six cellphones and a camera," he said in a statement Thursday. According to the statement, all the crew were interrogated and taken to the Sandakan RMN Base Jetty to be handed over to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
