KOTA KINABALU: The State Government will continue to work together with the teaching community to produce more creative and innovative human capital for the country.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, in giving the assurance, said they would also give assistance and support for whatever planning and commitment that are already, currently and will be implemented by the Federal Government, through the Education Ministry, for boosting education excellence in the State.

"The responsibilities of a teacher these days are getting more complex as with the ever increasing commitment demanded from them. But I believe this will enable teachers to be more alert and proactive in turning the teaching and learning world into something that is fun for the students," he said when officiating at the Prize Presentation for the Tenth State-level Teacher's Day Card Drawing Contest at the Magellan Sutera, Tuesday.

His speech was read by Special Tasks Minister Datuk Teo Chee Kang.

Commending the initiative by the Sabah Chinese School Teachers Association in organising the contest, Musa said the activity is very meaningful in the context of giving appreciation to the contribution and sacrifice made by teachers.

He said through the contest the students are given a chance to appreciate their teachers creatively and, at the same time, inculcate good moral values among them and make them an excellent human capital.

He said the contest is also timely and went well with this year's Teacher's Day celebration theme "Guru Pencetus Kreativiti, Penjana Inovasi (teachers an agent of creativity and innovation)" as the country needed creative and innovative teachers to produce excellent human capital through creative and innovative approaches.

This year's edition of the contest saw the submission of altogether 1,042 cards, of which 243 were from pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan/Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan and 544 from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina, while the rest 255 from student of secondary schools.

About 10 per cent or 104 of the cards were adjudged the best and won prizes during the event.

Meanwhile, Teo also welcomed a proposal from State Education Director Datuk Jame Alip for the association to also organise such a contest for the Malaysia Day celebration to boost their spirit of loving the State and nation.

He said he would give his full support if the proposal is taken up by the association.
