Three navy men claim trial to causing death of Sabahan

KOTA KINABALU: Three Malay navy personnel who claimed trial to causing the death of their Sabahan colleague last year will go on trial on Jan 20-23 next year.Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad fixed the date for Muhammad Zainrudin Nordin, Mohd Hood Mad Hasib, both 25, and Muhammad Fadli Zaini, 24, when their case was brought up for case management on Monday.

Zainrudin, of Kajang, Selangor, Hood from Kulai, Johor and Fadli of Melaka are accused of committing culpable homicide not amounting to the murder of one Asrup Raidin, 27.

The crime allegedly took place at 7.36pm on Dec 3, 2013 at the Royal Malaysian Navy's Lagun Station (Terumbu Ubi), Labuan.

They had on Sept 19 pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 304 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 30 years and fine, on conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Nazneen Zulkifli appeared for the prosecution while Zainrudin, Hood and Fadli were represented by counsel Ram Singh, Y S Lo and Timothy Daut.

They were released on a bail of RM10,000 with RM5,000 deposited in a local surety each.

The prosecution informed the court that about 25 witnesses would be called in the hearing. – Cynthia D Baga
