Labuan Integrated Port set to be a reality in 2015
LABUAN: The Labuan Integrated Port is getting closer to reality under the 11th Malaysia Plan which takes effect end of 2015. Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said 200 hectares in Rancha Rancha had been acquired for the purpose.

However, the actual allocation for the building and development of the integrated port has yet to be finalised.

"The Government has received several proposals for the project," said the Deputy Minister, adding that it is studying the options. It is likely to be built under the public and private sector initiative.

For the short term, port operator Labuan Liberty Port Management had applied for 20 acres of land for the expansion of its facilities and to accommodate the trailers.

The Government also had to expand the roads leading to the port and exit to ease traffic congestion.

To streamline port activities, Labuan Port Authority would be established before the end of the year.

The robust growth of the Labuan O&G activities had necessitated the integrated port as well as a cargo terminal at the Labuan International Airport.

Malaysian Airport Bhd (MAB) would be looking into the cargo terminal.

On the bridge link from the main island to Pulau Daat, he said a Member of Parliament had brought it to his attention on its economic value.

He had raised the matter with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in-charge of the Economic Planning Unit, Senator Dato' Sri Abdul Wahid Omar. It would also be implemented under the 11th MP.

Abdul Aziz, accompanied by Deputy Director General of Marine Department Baharin Datuk Abdul Hamid, Labuan Marine Director Benjamin Bijon and other top transport officials, was at the LLPM complex to attend a briefing by the port's CEO Dato' Seri Alias Abdul Rahman.
