VC eyes making KK the most vibrant in art scene
KOTA KINABALU: University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) Vice Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Ghazally Ismail intends to turn KK into the most vibrant art scenes in the country. He said this at an art exhibition officiated by the Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Jainab Ayid at the Centre for Arts and Design, Jalan Pelabuhan, here.

To make this a reality, art exhibitions will be held by them several times throughout the year, added Ghazally.

"UCSF is keen on bringing art experiences to the public. Such events would encourage our artists to interact with the wider art community allowing people to understand and interact with art in a vibrant and accessible environment."

Aware of the challenges of breaking into the international art scene, Ghazally highlighted that they are serious about fostering the careers of budding local artists.

"The university hopes to emerge as a hub for the exchange of aesthetic concepts and art appreciation. We need to be at the forefront of pushing artwork into the public sphere,"he added.

Meanwhile, Ghazally also pointed out that emerging local talents from UCSF are gaining recognition at a fast pace at both national and international levels.

To illustrate this, he explained that in recent months, their works have been displayed at several notable art events in Kuala Lumpur.

In June next year, an art exhibition featuring their works will be held at an art gallery in Paris, France.

Art works that are identifiable with Sabah - a focus encouraged by UCSF will be able to promote the state to the world.

The art exhibition at Centre for Arts and Design features works of 18 artists, ranging from traditional to contemporary paintings and metal sculptures, from UCSF's Faculty of Creative Arts and Multimedia.

With the theme "Touch of Nature", it parades some of the spectacular artworks inspired by the rich and diverse forms of Sabah's natural heritage.

We will continue to debunk the common falsehood about artists being destitute and hungry souls to that of glamorous and financial independent lots, assured Ghazally.

Also present was UCSF Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr.Dayang Aminah Ali.
