Automotive institute targets 250 participants next year

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti), expects to attract about 250 participants to join the Bumiputera Workshop Transformation Programme (BWTP) next year.MAI Chief Executive Officer M Madani Sahari said the programme, introduced under the Malaysia Automotive Bumiputera Development Roadmap (MABDR), is aimed at enhancing Bumiputera participation in the automotive sectors.

He said the target is a continuation of the programme's nationwide pioneer intake this year, involving about 150 participants.

"Commencing in April 2014, the programme is formulated to transform and modernise automotive workshops in the automotive after sales sector.

"To date some 150 entrepreneurs or workshop owners have participated in this one-year programme, of which, 43 of them are from Sabah. The BWTP programme had successfully enhanced gross sales by an average 20 per cent within its first five months," he added.

M Madani told reporters this at the "Chit Chat With CEO of MAI" session here Monday.

Meanwhile, he said MAI would introduce e-distance learning to enable the interested 43 BWTP participants in Sabah to further their studies at the diploma level or above, from next year.

He said centres would be established in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau respectively, for participants to attend lectures during their studies.

"They have to attend clasess as this three-year Diploma in Automotive Management course is certified by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency," M Madani added. – Bernama
