KOTA KINABALU: Sabah posted its best Ujian Peperiksaan Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) results in five years with slightly more than half the 44,427 candidates who sat for the exam this year scoring at least a C in all subjects.The number scoring all A's also increased from 1,197 in 2013 to 1,231, said an elated State Education Director Datuk Jame Alip when announcing the results in SK Sri Gaya, Wednesday.SK Sri Gaya had the most scoring 5As for a national-type school with 37 candidates and an average passing grade of 94.74 per cent. SK St Monica, Sandakan came next with 26 candidates followed by SK St Agnes, Kota Kinabalu with 20 candidates.
"The average percentage of those scoring weak (D) and very weak (E) has also dropped from 7.81 per cent in 2013 to 1.23 per cent this year.""Overall, Sabah has done well this year and I am very happy with the results. I hope that we will be able to move forward and continue increasing the percentage."

He also said in terms of the State average grade quality (GPN), Sabah registered an improvement from 2.76 in 2013 to 2.71 this year. "I am proud that the pupils managed to perform very well even after with the issues of leaked UPSR question papers and the postponement of some exam dates."

Jame was referring to the leaked question papers of four subjects this year, namely Science, English language, Mathematics and Tamil language that had delayed the UPSR examination for almost a month.
