UPSR: Schools in Ranau achieve another milestone

RANAU: Primary schools here achieved another milestone when they successfully improved their performance in the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) this year to the Gred Purata Daerah (GPD) 2.33 compared to 2.48 last year.Ranau District Education Officer, Siti Hami @ Ani Binti Hashim said the result placed Ranau at the top of the state in terms of GPD.

She said this proved that the high commitment and determination of educators continue to transform their efforts and methodology to carry out their Teaching and Learning (PdP) among students.

Siti said a total of 1,734 candidates from 72 schools in Ranau sat for the UPSR 2014 and 48 schools have been able to push upward their performances or their respective Gred Purata Sekolah (GPS).

Of the 72 schools in Ranau, she said, three Cluster Schools achieved the best results, where one of them, SK Bundu Tuhan, achieved GPS 1.36 in which seven of its pupils scored 5As.

"This was followed by SK Perancangan with GPS 1.48 where five of its pupils scored 5As and SK Kauluan with GPS 1.57 where three of its pupils obtained 5As. In addition, SK Longut recorded a 100 per cent pass when one pupil scored 2As and 3Bs," she told the media on Wednesday.

Siti commended headmasters and educators here on the success of the schools.

"The success was the result of dedication and commitment among all teachers in the district, coupled with strong support from parents of our pupils," she explained.

She called on all sides to continue to increase their commitment and responsibility to transform their efforts to realise the goals of the Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia (PPPM) 2013-2025.

Meanwhile, SK Pekan Ranau managed to record GPS 2.00, while increasing the number of students achieving 5As by 82 per cent, which is eight pupils, compared to just three pupils in 2013.

The eight pupils who scored 5As are Areef Iskandar Amdan, Edu Sinusi, Gascoline George, Ismah Syahirah Sabri, Mohd Aidil Kasinin, Nur Faezah Zainurin, Puteri Nur Aleesya Hadinin and Syaza Yasmin Ezal.

Another 12 pupils scored 4As, 1B, namely Amirah Izzati, Andrea Audrey Mahadin, Jane Jaibi, Mayrionn Wellmen, Meerysia Simun, Mohd Faris Nawi, Mohd Zarifuddin Mohd Redzlan, Muhamad Azizi Doimin, Mumtaz Hakeme Rajibin, Nicolelyn Jim, Nurul Idayu Paiman and Nur Az Zahrawani Kadir.

Most of the students stated that their key to success in the UPSR was diligent studying at home and to always give full concentration in class.

For Edu Sinusi, Arief Iskandar, Puteri Nur Aleesya and Syza Yasmin, their key to success are their passion for reading, group discussions with other friends and always respect their teachers and parents.

For Ismah Syahirah, in order to become a successful student, one must constantly cultivate the best self-discipline and comply with regulations or laws that come into effect at the school.
