ALOR STAR: Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir questioned Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's wisdom behind his controversial stand that non-Muslims in Penang are not bound by a state Islamic law which prohibits them from using 40 Islamic words including "Allah".Mukhriz said as a state leader, Lim was supposed to uphold and defend the enactment passed by the Federal government that Allah word is exclusive for Muslims in the Peninsular Malaysia states.

In expressing his shock over Lim's action, Mukhriz argued whether Lim had taken into account the sensitivity of Muslims community in Penang before making such statement.

"I could not help but to wonder why Lim suddenly made such personal and unilaterally move by allowing something which is against the law while he was supposed to uphold the law as a state leader.

"While we acknowledged and respect the rights of Sabah and Sarawak state governments in having different approach in handling the matter, Lim should have been more aware that Penang is part of states in Peninsular Malaysia," he said in a Press conference after chairing a meeting on national-level 'Hafazan Al-Quran Competition' to be held here next March.

Also present during the meeting was Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
