KENINGAU: More opportunities should be afforded to the indigenous people living in the interior in Sabah especially in terms of education and job opportunities. North Borneo Dusun Minamasok Association President Dimie Guntop said this is because many of the KDM people in the interior are left out in terms of development, economy and education.

"It is hoped that the government can give bigger quota in public universities especially in UMS.

I also hope UMS will open its branches here because many of our people cannot afford to further their studies in Kuala Lumpur or Kota Kinabalu," he said.

He added that the district with its 500,000 population deserves at least a university and two institutes to study agriculture and science.

He also urged the government to include Keningau whenever they have tourism promotion overseas.

"The government must help develop tourism industry in the interior so that more tourists will come here. It would help stimulate the economy especially our hotels, tourism products, handicrafts, restaurants and transport system," he said.
