Kota Kinabalu: The National Integration and Unity Department (JPNIN) has received 127 nomination forms from neighbourhood watch committees (RTs) throughout the country to compete in 4th Premier Award of RT to be held here on Jan 24.Its Director-General Gandesan Letchumanan said out of the 127, 63 have been shortlisted to compete in nine categories of the auspicious event to be held at the State Legislative Assembly building here at 10am.

He said the main objective of organising the event is to recognise and appreciate the volunteers who manage the RTs and the branches in serving the communities and contributing to the wellbeing of society like in Volunteer Patrolling Scheme (SRS), Unity Kindergarten, Women's Neighbourhood and Young Neighbours, among others.

"The 63 RTs will be competing for the final round in nine categories of the award and the results will be revealed on Jan 24 that will be presented by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"In fact, I am very pleased with the good number of RTs competing in the award that we have received nationwide, where they show their interest to participate.

"Apart from that, it also shows that they are active in managing the RTs and carrying out various beneficial programmes," he said.

Gandesan said this to Daily Express after chairing a meeting of the working committee of the RT Premier Award 2015 with Sabah media at the department's office at the Federal Administrative Complex Building, here, Thursday.

Among those tentatively expected to be present in the event are Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

According to Gandesan, there are nine categories that focus on management and carrying out projects by the RTs like RT Management, SRS Management, Unity Kindergarten Management, Unity Permata Child Care Management, Women's Neighbourhood Management, Young Neigbhours Management, RT Economy Project, RT Innovation Project and RT Gold Award Appreciation.

He said a new category was introduced in the event known as 'Appreciation for Gold Award RT' which refers to the oldest RT still active in its operations.

He said the winner of each category will get cash, certificate and trophy in the event.

To a question, Gandesan said five RTs in Sabah have been shortlisted to compete in five categories – RT Management, SRS Management, Unity Permata Child Care Management, Young Neighbours Management and RT Gold Award Appreciation.
