107 Sabah schools are eligible for hardship allowance

SANDAKAN: A total of 107 schools in Sabah are eligible for the special allowance according to location and hardship level to be provided to teachers on duty following its re-evaluation and enforcement effective this month.Sabah Teachers' Union President Suhaimi Othman said the number had increased from only 38 schools last year based on the school list that was evaluated in 2007.

He said the special allowance enabled teachers in the P3 category at primary and secondary schools to receive RM1,500 monthly.

"I am confident the increase (in the number of eligible schools) will enhance the spirit of teachers serving in the islands and rural areas as well as ease the hardship they faced," Suhaimi, who is also Kinabatangan district education officer told Bernama here.

According to the re-evaluation, 372 schools in Sabah and Sarawak are eligible for the special allowance.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the two projects together would add 28MWac of new power generation capacity, helping to stabilise electricity supply in Sabah.
He also said the union sympathised with their colleagues affected by the floods, especially in the East Coast of the peninsular and urged teachers in the state to contribute to the Edcuation Ministry's aid fund via the Sabah Education Department.
