YS sponsors 22 UPSR students under exchange programme
Kota Kinabalu: The Yayasan Sabah Group (YSG) has sponsored a total of 22 students to Peninsular Malaysia and 10 students under its Exchange Students Programme (Sabah/Sarawak). It is part of efforts to provide better education to students with excellent UPSR results.

Yayasan Sabah Director, Datuk Sapawi Haji Ahmad said under this programme, the scholarship recipients will continue their secondary school education outside Sabah with 22 recipients going to reputable schools in Peninsular Malaysia and the remaining 10 sstudents studying in Sarawak.

"In exchange of sending our students to Sarawak, YSG is pleased to receive five students from Sarawak. Surely, this will foster greater cooperation between YSG and Yayasan Sarawak," said Sapawi.

Since 1968, YSG has allocated an estimated of RM55 million to provide scholarship to 5,872 students with excellent UPSR results.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the two projects together would add 28MWac of new power generation capacity, helping to stabilise electricity supply in Sabah.
Sapawi said: "Apart from obtaining excellent exam result and active involvement in co-curriculum activities, the priority is for students from low income families."

"Through this programme, our children will also act as Sabah's ambassador in strengthening national integration between the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak in line with the 1Malaysia spirit.

We hope our children will use this opportunity to assimilate with their friends over there," he said.

The sponsored students attended a briefing together with their parents.

During the briefing, YSG personnel explained to both students and parents on the scholarships, the list of dos and don'ts, school activities and followed by questions and answers session.

After the briefing, recipients continuing their study in Sarawak were received by a representative from Yayasan Sarawak, Mohd. Fikri Mohamad.
