Fashion designer keen to design outfits with traditional touch

Kota Kinabalu: Embracing ethnic differences in the country, top fashion designer Jovian Mandagie said he is open to requests in regards to implementing traditional elements on custom-made outfits.Not only that, he intends to see Sabahans become more fashionable. "As it is, Sabahans are already fashionable and forward. They are also daring. Basically, we intend to bring in a new variety of fashion into the State," Jovian said during a press conference, recently.

Simple and Stylish fashion, Sabahan models were seen showing off Jovian Mandagie's new collection – J Luxe 2015 – at a three-storey bungalow in Likas.

It is Jovian's first of its kind store in the State. It is now making a strong presence due to the high demand and positive feedback from the people here, prior to its existence.

The opening of 'House of Jovian Mandagie' (two brands under one roof) on January 23 also took into consideration the State's close proximity to Brunei.

"On average, just for custom-made wedding gowns, I have 10 to 20 Sabahan clients on an annual basis."

Also known to be ready to extend his services even during the last minute, Jovian never fails to maintain quality and excellence. His fans are aware that the outfits they purchase from his store are from the highest form of craftsmanship.

"For example, a couture takes three months to complete, but I complete one in one day," Jovian said.

When asked whether he caters to plus size women, he said: "Occasionally, we produce plus size outfits up to 5XL. Most of the time, the sizes will go up to XL or XXL."

This astonishing designer's creations have gained a remarkable reputation among Malaysia's public figures, Kuala Lumpur's elite groups and royalties, including the former Raja Permaisuri Agong; Tuanku Nur Zahirah. Crossing the border, his clientele include HM Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha of Brunei, as well as Indonesian stars such as Rossa, Kris Dayanti and the duo Ratu, just to name a few.

Now, Jovian is in East Malaysia. His store in Likas, is East Malaysia's very first Jovian Ready-to-Wear (RTW) and Jovian Mandagie Couture, an extension of Jovian Mandagie Couture and J Store in Peninsular Malaysia.

At the launching ceremony, recently, Jovian Ready-to-Wear (RTW) featured the new J Luxe, Gems and the collaborative collection by Lisa Surihani and Jovian Mandagie, LS for Jovian Deluxe Edition.

As for Jovian Mandagie Couture and Jovian Mandagie Bridal, exquisite and elegant pieces are displayed in his store.

Among those present at the event were Chief Minister's wife Datin Seri Faridah Tussin, University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr. Dayang Aminah Ali, Community, Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ayid, Sabah Women Small and Medium Industries Association (IKSnita ) President Dayang Khatijah Datu Bachtiyal and Suria FM's Operation Manager Ivy Stanislaus.
