Alor Setar: The Sports Commissioner's office Monday lifted the suspension of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) since the federation had successfully carried out measures to rectify weaknesses in the administration."The suspension was lifted after a careful scrutiny of the measures taken by the federation to rectify flaws in its management of funds through a report submitted on Nov 24, 2014, to the Sports Commissioner's office and the Ministry of Youth and Sports' Internal Audit Unit.

"The measures were taken as per the request by the Sports Commissioner's office following the suspension," said Deputy Sports Commissioner Tuan Abdul Rahim Tuan Bahru in a statement Monday.

According to Tuan Abdul Rahim, MNCF can now carry on its responsibilities as the governing body for cycling in the country.

"However, the MNCF must hold its Annual General Meeting and election for office bearers within 60 days as well as amend its constitution to restructure its financial management," he said.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had on Oct 24, 2014 instructed the Sports Commissioner to suspend MNCF until the sports panel completed its probe on allegations of mismanagement, involving funds provided for development.

The audit on the association's spending was carried out following complaints that the programme on road cycling and the expenditure report of MNCF was found to be too general.

MNCF came under the spotlight after the SEA Games in Myanmar when Terengganu Cycling Team's (TSG) leading cyclist, Mohd Zamri Salleh was dropped for being inactive and poor performance of the road racing squad. – Bernama

The national cycling body was reported to have received an allocation of RM1.5 million from the Ministry for the national road cycling programme since 2011. – Bernama
