'Sport-active students more able'

Ranau: Active participation in sport among the younger generation will produce students who have physical and mental fitness and make them more competitive than others.Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology, Datuk Siringan Gubat said, it is one of the main factors why students should be actively engaged in sports activities.

"With balanced and consistent training, a student can become a prudent, responsible, disciplined athlete, with high self-esteem and leadership attributes that makes them stand out from the rest.

"The 1Murid 1Sukan (1 Student 1 Sport) call introduced at the school level is very timely as it is the best platform for achieving these goals, not only because it is able to strengthen the relations between the school and the local community, but also as a catalyst towards greater success," he explained.

Siringan who also Paginatan Assemblyman said this when officiating the Temasya Sukan Olahraga Sekolah-Sekolah Zon Tengah Ranau Ke-33 2015 held at the Ranau Sports Complex on Tuesday.

"With the variety of social illness in today's world that often haunt the school such as drugs and gangsterism among students, good relationships between the school and the PIBG is one of the best alternatives in dealing with the problem," he explained.
