510 premises in Sabah need fire cert: Dept

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 510 premises in the State have been identified as those that need a fire certificate from the Fire and Rescue Department.State Fire and Rescue Department Director Nordin Pauzi said out of this figure, a total of 33 premises have already obtained the certificate from the department, while 177 have yet to receive it. "Out of this figure, eight cases have been brought to court, we will go all out to ensure every premises is equipped with proper fire and rescue system to ensure the safety of all, including the properties inside the premises," he said.

Nordin, who was represented by his Assistant Director Anwar Abu Bakar, said this at the launching of the Tawau and Sandakan-level Business Licensing Electronic Support System (Bless) Workshop at Hotel Promenade, here, Thursday. Also present were the Fire and Rescue Building Security Enforcement Chief Ahmad Izram Osman and Tawau Fire and Rescue Department Chief Ismaidi Ismail. The workshop, which was the second of its kind after the first in Kota Kinabalu on Jan 27, was attended by a total of 267 participants.Speaking on Bless, he said the system is part of the initiative to enhance the performance of the existing system.

He hoped the system would assist in improving the performance of the department. He explained that Bless helps the people in licensing management and reduces the bureaucracy as well as increases the performance of the department.
