Kota Kinabalu: Asean foreign ministers' spouses, senior officials and delegates attending the Asean Foreign Ministers' Retreat were given a glimpse of the conservation work, culture and history of Sabah.Accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman's wife, Datin Seri Faridah Tussin, they were given a grand welcome at Yayasan Sabah complete with the traditional Sumazau dance performed by children while the Keningau Bamboo Music band played Sayang Kinabalu.

The foundation's senior group manager (human resources and corporate services) Rosmawati Lasuki briefed delegates on the main conservation work done by the foundation, including conservation work in areas such as Maliau Basin, Danum Valley and Imbak Canyon.

Visitors were taken to the virtual reality theatre where they watched a three-dimensional documentary on Maliau Basin.

The 15-minute film showcased the 58,840ha basin and what it offers, including nature trails, ancient trees and a magnificent waterfall.

Thai Foreign Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn's wife, Penlaksana Patimapragorn, was impressed.

"The Sabah government has conserved it well and I will encourage my children to come here one day.

"As for the Tun Mustapha Gallery, it has an interesting history and a grand layout to be shared with the public," she said in reference to the gallery which told the story of the late Tun Mustapha Harun who lead Sabah to independence.

Penlaksana, Thailand Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Sihasak Phuangketkeow's wife, Varaporn Phuangketkeow, and Foreign Affairs Ministry secretary-general Datuk Othman Hashim's wife, Datin Rohayazam Kamaruzaman, visited the handicraft and batik exhibition.

The visit was held in conjunction with the three-day Asean Foreign Ministers Retreat. On Tuesday, while hosting dinner for the delegates, Musa had said the ministerial-level Asean meeting would introduce delegates to the wonders that Malaysia had to offer.

"I hope you will be able to take time off your busy schedules to visit our places of interest and Sabah's natural wonders such as Mount Kinabalu, Maliau Basin, also known as The Lost World and the world-renowned Sipadan Island.
