KOTA KINABALU: The State Local Government and Housing Ministry is urged to form a special committee to look into a Housing and Town Development Board (LPPB) project approval in Austral Park.Likas Assemblyman Junz Wong said the Ministry must intervene, cease and stop all LPPB Joint Venture projects immediately, if proven such deal had occurred.

"Stop all joint venture projects with private developers using cheap state land to build high-end homes and commercial lots. LPPB should focus on building low costs housing.

"I urge the Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor to investigate the project deal seriously as this may be only the tip of the iceberg. We do not want to have a situation where Sabahans are forced to be vigilant in case their open spaces have been used or sold without their knowledge," he said in a statement.

The land, he said, belongs to the residents who paid the land conversion and assessment fees. Furthermore, open spaces should be reverted and governed under local authorities. He questioned how is it possible that land titles were issued to LPPB.

"The Land and Survey department must explain how LPPB got the titles for residential open space. I demand the department rectify the matter and revert the land titles back to the residents," he said.

Calling the issue a total disregard of state laws and town planning ordinance, Junz called on LPPB Chairman Datuk Rubin Balang to explain to the public what actually happened as he was the signatory in the agreement with a private developer on behalf of LPPB.

"Rubin has two weeks to respond before the DAP lodge a report to MACC against him, LPPB and all involved parties. If he failed to do this, then he should resign immediately from his post as LPPB Chairman," he said.

Junz also reminded Hajiji on his promise to expedite the process of gazetting Town Planning Statutory plans by the Head of State.

The gazetted plans, said Junz, would not only ensure steady and stable development of Kota Kinabalu and 24 other districts but also help fight corruption at all levels.
