11,833 businesses in Kedah register for GST

Alor Setar: A total of 11,833 businesses in Kedah have registered for the Goods and Services (GST), exceeding the target of 8,000 companies, Kedah Royal Customs Department director Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said.He said however, about 1,300 eligible companies failed to do so as the registration exercise came to a close on Saturday. "The Customs Department expects to collect RM806 million in GST revenue from the 11,833 companies in Kedah this year," he told reporters after launching an integrated GST operation against GST defaulters here, Sunday.

Abdul Latif said the department had ways to detect errant companies, including getting their particulars from Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB). Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Some 50,000 companies, which have failed to register for the GST, face a RM15,000 compound and might be forcibly registered. Under the GST, all businesses with a sales turnover of RM500,000 or more, are required to register, while those with less, can do so voluntarily. – Bernama
