Selangor: Taxpayers can now pay their income tax using Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards as well as debit cards issued by banking institutions in the country, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan. He said the new tax payment method can be done through the 'ByrHASIL' portal provided by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) at https://byrhasil.hasil.gov.my/.

It is the latest initiative by LHDN in collaboration with Maybank to ensure that tax payments were made easier and faster, he said during a press conference after launching it in conjunction with the 19th Revenue Day celebration at Menara Hasil, here Monday.

"This provides more comfort to the taxpayer, where previously payments were made in cash at the counter, via Cash Deposit Machine (CDM) and internet banking," he said.

Through this method, the IRB is also expecting the number of income tax transactions online to increase to 25 per cent this year, compared to 12.13 per cent of 7.53 million tax payment transactions recorded last year.

"Through this creative method of tax collection, the government is also confident that the collection target of RM142.646 billion can be achieved, despite being faced with challenges including the decline in world oil prices that are expected to reduce tax collection from the crude oil sector," he said.

The IRB recorded a tax collection of RM133.694 billion last year, up 3.6 percent compared to the previous year. – Bernama
