SMA to organise more motorsport events

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Motorsport Association (SMA) had announced their motorsport planning for 2015 after receiving their annual grant from Youth and Sports Ministry during the Grants Distribution Ceremony for State Sports Association at Promenade Hotel on Tuesday.According to its secretary, Mohd Kamaruden Hambali, the RM15,000 grant will help the association to organise extra motorsport events throughout Sabah this year.

"We had planned several events to be held this year according to the budget given by the Ministry, however, if there is any additional budgets then for sure we will plan more motorsport related events to be added to the current ones," he said.

Even before receiving the annual grant, SMA had already planned several motorsport events such as Sabah Motocross Challenge that was held last February at Tawau.

Other than organising events, they also will be sending a 14-year-old Sabahan boy to participate in the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship starting on March 14 for all 10 rounds across West Malaysia.

Also during the Kaamatan Harvest Festival in May, the Tawau Drag Battle will be held at Tawau Old Airport in an event where SMA will co-organise it together with Youth and Sports Ministry and Tawau Motorsport Association.

Sabah Four Wheel Drive Association (SFWDA) also received an annual grant worth RM15,000 that the association's representative, Fred Leong said that the grant will give an additional budget to the club's yearly programme.
