Kota Kinabalu: Api-Api Assemblywoman Christina Liew said her Constituency Office will play its part in helping to identify potential Aedes breeding sites for the necessary action."We will include our visit to some of the housing areas, especially the open spaces and drainage systems. We will inform the State Health Department immediately on possible danger areas and request the authority to conduct fogging in these areas as a preventive measure," she said.

According to Liew, she and her team of workers had visited some of the areas in and around the city centre over the last two months, and found that many of the back alleys of shops, particularly in Kg Air and Bandaran Berjaya, are filthy with clogged drains and stagnant water.

"These are potential breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito that may cause dengue cases. We had highlighted the situation in the media and also to Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK)," she said.

Liew, who is Sabah PKR Deputy Chief, was responding to State Health Director, Dr Christina Rundi's call for public support for the department's anti-Aedes campaign.

Earlier this week, the Director revealed that more dengue cases have been reported in Sabah with the figure rising to 742 as of last Sunday. Kota Kinabalu topped with 361 cases followed by 113 in Penampang.

"We appreciate the information released by the Health Department. However, Dr Rundi did not elaborate on what kind of action will be or has been taken when two cases are reported in one particular area, which she said shall be defined as a 'dengue outbreak'," she said.
