Kuala Lumpur: In conjunction with Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2015, Tourism Selangor targets seven million visitors to the State to boost the State's economy and increase revenue.Tourism Selangor's promotion and events manager, Khuzaimah Jamaluddin, said the number of tourists to the State increased by around five per cent over the last three years, with 6.73 million in 2014 and 6.7 million in 2013 from 6.37 million in 2012.

Themed 'Discover Selangor', the year-long celebration will focus on three main segments, namely nature, sports and heritage.

"Selangor is not all about city life, busy areas and crowded towns. In Selangor, plenty of outdoor adventures await everyone. We aim to bring visitors to the State to explore its natural treasures," Khuzaimah said at a press conference, here, Wednesday.

Fondly known as the 'Gateway to Malaysia', Selangor has more to offer than just being one of the developed states in the country.

Places of interest include the Kampung Kuantan Firefly Park and Bukit Melawati in Kuala Selangor, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong, Royal Klang Heritage Walk, Batu Caves and Sepang Circuit.

Tourism Selangor will operate six booths at the upcoming Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from March 13 to 15.

Meanwhile, Berjaya Sompo Insurance Berhad (BSIB) will be the Insurance Partner for this year's Matta Fair.

BSIB Chief Executive Officer Datuk Patrick Loh, who announced the group's first collaboration with Matta, said BSIB was ready to offer visitors a bigger spread of travel insurance plan choices and affordable travel insurance premiums as low as RM18 per trip.

"We provide a comprehensive range of general insurance solutions for individuals and corporations. The policy covers loss of baggage, flight delay, personal accident and medical expenses," he said at the same press conference.

At the same time, BSIB aims to increase awareness on the importance of purchasing travel insurance.

"Travellers often pay less attention to travel insurance without knowing its importance. Thus, we hope to raise their awareness on this matter so that everyone can travel in peace," he said.
