Lahad Datu: Construction of houses in Kampung Tanjung Batu and Kampung Tanjung Labian for villagers affected by the 2013 Sulu incursion is among the physical development projects implemented by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development for the people's welfare.A total of 45 houses are being built in Kampung Tanjung Batu and 66 in Kampung Tanjung Labian by the Ministry.

Repair works are also being done on houses damaged during the incident.

Deputy Minister, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said apart from that the Ministry also implemented other physical development projects such as clean water supply, electricity supply and rural roads.

"However, the government through the Ministry is not only focussing on physical development, but also the development of human capital that can empower rural communities. "To achieve the mission of development of human capital, the Ministry has mobilised efforts to develop the mindset and attitude of rural communities through the implementation of the Human Mind Development programme," he said.

The main mission of the programme is to develop the minds and attitudes of target groups to be more motivated to try to improve knowledge, education, skills and family income.

He said since it was implemented in 2013, a total of 386 Human Capital programmes have been carried out by the Ministry throughout the country and benefited 25, 000 participants at a cost of RM10 million.

"Recognising the importance of human capital development in rural areas, the Ministry has allocated RM10 million to implement the programme this year.

"It is hoped that the programme could spark a positive impact on participants and assist them to become independent and free themselves from poverty," he said in his speech during the Rejuvenation Programme on Saturday.

On the Rejuvenation Programme, he said the programme implemented by the government was to help rural communities traumatised and negatively affected by the incursion incident in Tanduo, two years ago.

Appropriate with the meaning of 'Rejuvenation', which means to restore something to its original condition, the programme hopes to restore the glory of this district through better changes in terms of thought, emotion, and the identity of local community.

"This is the first programme and the activities were implemented in accordance to the needs of the people in this district affected by the incident.

"However, the programmes will be modified and implemented in other areas according to needs in that areas," he added.

Also present were Lahad Datu Assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal, District Officer, Iman Ali, and Felcra Sabah General Manager.
