Kota Kinabalu: Penampang MP Darell Leiking on Tuesday challenged the component parties of Sabah and Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) on whether they will still remain in the BN in view of Umno's full support for the PAS-led Kelantan State government's passing of the hudud enactment."It is not enough for the leaders of BN Sabah and Sarawak component parties to merely say that they will not be supporting the Private Member's Bill in Parliament with regards to the implementation of the hudud law in Kelantan.

"This is so because even PKR and DAP have openly stated that they are against the tabling of the Bill despite the fact that PAS is one of the parties which makes up Pakatan Rakyat," he said.

He said both PKR and the DAP are willing to burn the bridges with PAS over an issue which is against the spirit and letter of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the Constitution of Malaysia.

Recently, the PAS-led Kelantan State government managed to pass the enactment on hudud law with the support of Umno.

To this, Leiking said he firmly believes that it is a desperate act to re-brand itself as a party that promotes Islamic culture and law for the sake of its political survival in the coming 14th General elections (GE14).

"The sole PKR Kelantan assemblyman is also being disciplined for disregarding the party's instruction not to support the amendment at the Kelantan State Assembly and unless it is a tacit approval or change in BN joint policy, what is the action of the components of BN against the 12 BN assemblymen who supported the amendment last week?" he asked.

He said that being a political party that is tainted with multiple allegations of cronyism, ineffective leadership and internal squabbling, Umno, as the dominant party in BN, may push for a similar implementation of the hudud law in other Malay states in the peninsula in order to attract Muslim conservative electorates.

To this, he asked whether Sabah BN component parties, namely PBS, Upko, PBRS and LDP, will be willing to break away from BN, as how PKR and the DAP is willing to sever its ties with PAS.

"Or will these component parties be merely saying that the hudud law is unconstitutional?" he asked.

"So, I am asking all Members of Parliament and assemblymen in Sabah and Sarawak BN to make a stand that the Federation of Malaysia will remain secular and that this joint promise and agreement between the then nation of North Borneo, Sarawak and Malaya remain and that we leave the realms of any religion in the hands of the family, the community and home.

"As a joint equal partners in the Federation, we should pursue a better, secular and progressive Malaysia," he said.
