Tawau: Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is certain the issuance of visas and social visit passes with fake particulars to Pakistanis in Sabah is masterminded by a local syndicate."I cannot say that it is an international syndicate involved in issuing the documents with fake data, but I am very confident that it is the job of a local syndicate… maybe not done by local people but could be masterminded by foreigners.

"I am also optimistic that the documents are issued in Sabah. Hence, I have directed the Immigration Department through its Director-General to strictly examine all Pakistanis who enter Sabah through all entry points and checkpoints," he said.

Wan Junaidi said this in a press conference at the Tawau Airport here, Thursday.

He said the directive was issued not to victimise any individuals or nationalities from other countries who come to Malaysia but such action is necessary considering that the issue involved focused on Pakistanis.

Wan Junaidi said his ministry together with its agencies are seriously looking into the issuance of such documents to Pakistanis in Sabah and will not compromise on any immigration officer found involved in it.

"If the immigration officers are involved, we will direct the Integrity Unit to investigate before handing them over to the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for further investigation.

"We will not compromise…because this is an issue that needs to be fully addressed by the Government and its relevant departments and agencies. I am also taking seriously the comments of Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjum who highlighted the matter with serious concern," he said.

He said the ministry will empower the Integrity Unit in departments under its jurisdiction to ensure corrupt practices are curbed.

He said the ministry has yet to identify the number of fake documents that had been issued as well as those using such documents.
