Papar: The women here are encouraged to acquire living skills related to food production like in baking that has been proven to be lucrative.Papar MP Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said baking buns, biscuits and cakes have long been a good business as the demand is always high.

"Do not limit your skills just to be housewives doing house chores but complement your skills like in baking and producing local delicacies.

"Grab opportunities offered by government agencies like Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd under Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) that has various living skill programmes for locals to take up including in baking and cooking," she said.

Rosnah who is also Works Deputy Minister said this in her speech when opening a course on food processing, baking cakes, biscuits and buns at Masindung hall in Kawang, here.

Thirty women took part in the short-term course organised by Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd. Also present was Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd General Manager Mohd Amir Karim and other officials.

At the same time, Rosnah said married women who took up the course could also earn extra income for their families by selling their homemade biscuits, cakes and buns that always have good market.

"Having such skills would also mean a good step to be an entrepreneur and get to learn all they need to know in handling businesses.

"Also, I would like to advice for those women who wish to be a successful entrepreneur in this venture of selling the homemade cookies, cakes and buns, please do not give up when facing difficulties but persevere and be proactive in addressing those challenges.

"Just look at one of the richest men in the country Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary who experienced several failures in running his business but that did not stop him until he becomes a very successful and well known entreprenuer," she said.

Rosnah said the women should not be duly worried or fear of experiencing failure in operating their businesses as failing is a motivation for them to go further and taste even huge success.
