Ambrose sworn in as Senator

Kuala Lumpur: Penampang Umno Division chief Datuk John Ambrose, 66, and Gerakan vice-president Datuk Teo Kok Chee, 71, were sworn in as senators Tuesday.They took their oath of office before Dewan Negara president Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran in the Dewan Negara.

Ambrose told reporters his appointment would enable him to help improve the lives of the people in Penampang, Sabah, in terms of health and security.

"I intend to ask for a full-fledged hospital and the upgrading of the police station into a police headquarters for security reasons. I also want to bring more development to Penampang so that job opportunities could be given to the youths," he said.

He also said that he would ensure that the Kadazan, Dusun, Murut and Rungus people in his area voted for the Barisan Nasional in the next general election.

Teo, who is also Johor Gerakan chairman, said his was the first appointment for the party in the state.

He expressed the hope that his appointment would help in the development of the area and enable Gerakan to help the BN win big in the 14th general election.
