TUARAN:  Calm, peaceful and breathtaking is how the Peak of Hope that is 2,050 feet above sea level is often described. The Peak of Hope is located at Kampung Mosung, some 40 km from Kota Kinabalu and opened last Oct.

For those looking for a leisure and relaxing location during the weekends especially in the afternoon, it is not a disappointment.

Starting from Jalan Kindu Tuaran junction, visitors will be fetched by a 4WD to proceed to the 3km steep unpaved route.

As a family themed park, the Peak of Hope offers various interesting activities however the main attraction is taking photos or memories with an amazing background.

Aside from camping, visitors can carry out barbeque activities, kite flying, air balloons and more under the supervision of staff.

Facing the sea aside from the sunset, the dragon shaped peak also provides outdoor activities such as All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) which is a Quad Bike as well as hiking in groups with a guide for 40 minutes.

Those interested in air gliding can also experience 20 memorable minutes of Paragliding which offers a 360 degree view of the area.

Peak of Hope Manager, John Ngu Kiong Ho, 30, a Sarawakian said that after marrying a Sabahan, he wished to work on Musang King durian plantation after purchasing a 20 hectare site in the area.

However, it did not cross his mind to change the peak into a tourist attraction with the strategic location that gives a breathtaking sunrise view.

“So, while waiting for the durian trees to grow and bear fruits, I decided it can be made an interesting place to visit.

“The place is not fully completed and uses solar energy. I will be adding flying fox activity, a rabbit farm and night stay camping package for visitors in March. So visitors will be able to enjoy the stars at night,” he said.

There is also a canteen and stall for visitors to buy food and beverages.

“I am glad to see families spending time visiting this place,” said John. - R Gonzales
