SMK Tulid, Kg K’gau shine
KENINGAU: SMK Tulid and SK Kampung Keningau emerged as overall champion in the Traditional Dance and Folk Dance Competition held at the SK Kampung Keningau hall here.

SMK Tulid and SK Kampung Keningau who won in the secondary and primary school category respectively will represent this district in the state-level competitions.

The second and third place for secondary school category went to SMK St Francis Xavier and SMK Gunsanad respectively while SK Kuala Kahaba and SK Tuarid Taud won second and third place respectively for primary school category.

A total of 14 secondary and primary schools in the district participated in the competition.

The competition was officiated by Keningau Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Branch Chief, Datuk Dr Sangkar Rasam (pic).

When met by reporters after the competition, he urged corporate groups to help school management in term of financial to strengthen its co-curriculum programmes.

He said the allocation provided by the government is limited but that with the help from corporate groups, the burden of school would be alleviated.

“Funds are needed to hold activities such as sports, arts and culture.

“The teachers usually bring about 20 or 30 students during competitions and this require transportation, food, shelter and so on. Sometimes, the teachers bear the expenses,” he said.

Sangkar said the programme is an annual activity to select schools to represent Keningau at state-level competitions.

He said the main objective of the competition is to produce students who are well-balanced in academic, co-curriculum and skill as well as giving them exposure to the diversity of cultures in the country.

Besides that, he said it also aims to maintain cultural heritage through dances and unearth talent among students in the field of dance.
