KOTA KINABALU: The 9th Sabah Masters Athletics Open Championships (Samoc) 2019 will be held over two days at Likas Stadium from September 7-8.
The competition for athletes aged 35 and above is organised by Sabah Masters Athletics Association (Samas), with cooperation from Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sabah Sports Council and Sabah Sports Board.

Samas President David William (pic) said they are expecting 500 participants from local and international teams this year.
“In 2018 the championships attracted 587 athletes from 19 teams, and we expect more or less the same numbers this year.
“The championships will again be using electronic timings facility for track events in order to attract international teams as the results are recognised worldwide and for their world ranking purposes.
“So far many countries including Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Hong Kong have shown their interest.”

He also disclosed that pole-vault event for men in the 40-70 years category will be introduced for the first time this year.
“We have many potential winners in this event and currently some of them are training under Aliudin Jumaat in preparation for the Asian Masters Athletic Championships later this year.”
The popular invitation relay 4x100m for junior below 20, 20-29 and 30-34 which had attracted about 40 teams yearly will be retained. Registration fee is RM40 for the first event with one pair of championships microfibre tee shirt introduced this year. The subsequent events will cost RM10 each with maximum of four individual events.
