Man killed by uprooted tree
SIPITANG: A man was killed after a tree uprooted by strong winds fell on him in Kampung Luagan, here, about 4.30pm, on Saturday. 

District Police Chief DSP Champin Piuh on Sunday identified the victim as Hamoi Diman, 37, who died at the scene.

Another man, aged 25, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu for neck injury caused by the uprooted tree. More than 20 houses in Kg Sindumin Baru, Kg Seri Menanti, Kg Baru and Kg Luagan were badly damaged by the strong winds. 

“Inspections in the affected areas showed the roofs of most of the houses were blown off by the strong winds,” said Champin, adding that electric cables were also damaged due to uprooted trees, causing power outage.

He said the District Office was still investigating the number of victims and loss involved.
