Extra Play and Learn Corner at Likas Hosp

Kota Kinabalu: The women and children’s hospital, here, was among six nationwide that received Rm15,000 each and goodie bags for the children from Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) recently.

The other were Hospital Ampang KL, Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II Kelantan, Hospital Pulau Pinang, Hospital Besar Melaka and Hospital Sibu, Sarawak.

The “Play and Learn” corner at these hospitals was also refurbished. The initiative is part of PDB’s “Small Change Goes the Distance” campaign organised in conjunction with Ramadan leading up to Syawal from 28 May to 28 June. During this period, PDB donated 1 sen for every RM1 purchase made by customers at Petronas station’s Kedai Mesra nationwide.

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government continued its momentum in managing the economy in line with the commitment and spirit of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) when it posted record high state revenue of RM6.973 billion last year.

At the recent handover ceremony at Hospital Wanita & Kanak-Kanak here, pdb’s Head of Retail Sales and Operation Azureen Azita said: “Every Ramadan, we make it a point to give back to the less privileged community. This the first time that we are reaching out to hospitals with the hope that our contribution will help ease their expenses and bring joy to the children.

“We would like to thank our customers and the team at the respective hospitals for their strong support in making this Campaign a meaningful initiative,” she added. PDB also established a new “Play and Learn” corner with new furniture, books and toys. The area is instrumental in facilitating play therapy session, a method used to help children cope with the stress of being hospitalised. PDB also replicated this effort across all the chosen hospitals under this campaign, either setting up a new corner or refurbishing existing one, depending on the hospital’s needs.

Dr. Tan Bee Hwai, Director of Hospital Hospital Wanita & Kanak-Kanak said it was grateful for PDB’s contribution. Apart from cash, the team has also helped to set up a new Play and Learn corner in addition to our existing one. This is an important facility for the children and with an additional area, we would be able to accommodate more children at any one time.”

During the campaign, customers were also encouraged to donate books to the drop off points at selected Petronas stations, following which the collection were distributed to the hospitals.
