KOTA BELUD: Villagers of Kampung Bokilong, some 10 kilometres from town were recently donated with a gravity water system to ease their daily lives.

Suria Capital Holdings Berhad sponsored materials for the project. In collaboration with local NGO Hopes Malaysia, some 259 villagers build a water catchment system which to accommodate 54 families of the village.

The villagers, whom are mostly farmers and rubber tappers with income below the poverty line and are self-sustaining as lacked clean water as most of the villages in this district are not connected to the public water supply system.

A group of 20 staff from Suria Capital, took turns as volunteers in the community projects and drove all the way to Kota Belud on two Sundays respectively this year to assist in completing the works.

They assisted in tasks which began by laying the new pipelines replacing the older ones.

The project was a worth-while experience for the staff as it exposed them to the lives and woes of the rural folks and hoped this project would be extended to other similar rural areas in line with the company’s mission to care for the community through sustainable living.

Hopes Malaysia was represented by its President cum founder, Sam Lee while representing the Suria group was its head for Group Corporate Affairs and Communications, Datin Mariam Mahmun.
