Kota Kinabalu: Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian and Fatin Nurfateha Mat Salleh are nominated again for the best male and female athlete awards at the Sabah Sports Awards Ceremony 2017/18 to be held here at Magellan Sutera resort this evening (Tuesday).
A total of nine athletes have been nominated for the men’s category and eight for the women’s this year.
The 31-year-old Rayzam won the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games men’s 110m hurdles gold in 2017 and had also set a new national record with the time of 13.67 seconds in the same year.
Other men’s nominees in this year’s event are muaythai exponent Redzwan Norsyahmie Daud, diver Jellson Jabilin, karateka Richal Mattan, trail runner Daved Simpat, tennis player Christian Chin, rugby player Nathanael Tan, archer Lee Kin Lip and swimmer Hollymax Bell.
Compound archer Fatin on the other hand, who is ranked number one in South East Asia also produced excellent results with two golds and one silver at the 2017 SEA Games, ranked fourth in the individual event at the Asia Cup World Ranking tournament, and had participated in the Hyundai Archery World Cup (Stage 2) 2018 in Shanghai China, and the Asia Games in Jakarta.
The other nominees for the women category are karate exponent Pressy Misty Philip, trail running siblings Adelinah and Jasicca Lintanga, hockey player Juliani Mohd Din, Nurul Tasha AMira Abdul Rahman from Muaythai, weightlifter Marceeta Marylyne Marcus and swimmer Chu Xin Ying.
Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal are expected to grace the event.
Among the other awards to be presented on the night include best Para athletes, most promising athletes, best teams, best coach, best leadership, and also tokoh sukan.
