Wong is new Sandakan Council President

Kota Kinabalu: Former Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Local Government and Housing Ministry, Wong Foo Tin, has been appointed the new Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) President, with immediate effect.He takes over from Peter Hii who has completed his term as President of MPS, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong announced at Wisma Innoprise, here, Wednesday.

He said the appointment was approved by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
“He (Wong) is very experienced and was once an Assistant District Officer at several places like Nabawan and Tambunan, and also a District Officer,” he said.
During a press conference following the announcement, Wong said he would ensure the Sandakan Municipal Council preserves the public quality of life and promote tourism and other industries in Sandakan.
“Sandakan has a lot of potential to be developed, not only for eco-tourism but also fisheries and palm oil.

“Towards this end, many facilities will be upgraded like the airport to enable foreign airlines to introduce direct flights, beautify the district and many more,” he said.
Hii, a Sarawakian, served as MPS President for a year.
