Woman burnt to death after LD collision
LAHAD DATU: A 26-year-old woman was burnt to death when the car she was travelling in burst into flames after it was involved in a collision with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle at Jalan Sri Putatan, here, Monday morning.

District Police Chief ACP Nasri Mansor said preliminary investigations showed the woman, identified as Masnah Filemun, from Kampung Minusoh Tong in Beluran, was heading towards Jalan Dam from Sabahmas when the incident occurred at 6.40am.

“The Proton Saga went out of control when going downhill, veered into the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming Toyota Revo 4WD.  

“Masnah was burnt to death when the Proton Saga burst into flames, while another person who was in the Toyota Revo suffered slight injuries,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

According to Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander, Senior Fire Office II, Julkifli Harry, the emergency call about the accident came through at 6.24am and a team of eight was rushed over to the location, about 6.3km from the station.

Meanwhile, in PAPAR, a motorcyclist in his 50s succumbed to injuries following an accident at Km 13, Jalan Papar-Beaufort, near SOGT Kimanis, Sunday night.

District Police Chief DSP Batholomew Ak Umpit said the incident happened about 8.31pm when the victim was heading to Kota Kinabalu from Labuan. 

“He was attempting to overtake a lorry travelling in the same direction when he hit a road divider, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle before crashing, causing him to sustain serious head injuries,” he said, adding the victim died on the spot.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.

Meanwhile, in BEAUFORT, a 38-year-old man from Kg Tanjung Nipis Pantai Sipitang was killed in an accident on Sunday. 

Nahrizan Mahsah, who worked at the Pertubuhan Peladang, succumbed to his injuries when his Myvi turned turtle several times at Km 25 of Jalan Beaufort-Sipitang.

District Police Chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak said initial investigations showed the man was returning home to Sipitang from Beaufort when the incident occurred about 10.30pm.

The man, who was thrown off his car, sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene moments later.
