Sinsuran mess cleaned up after warning
The cantilever ledge of this commercial building in Sinsuran was cleaned up after a warning was served on its tenants (inset).
THE tenants residing in units above Block G, in Sinsuran commercial centre in the city, have complied with City Hall’s instruction to clean up the mess on the cantilever ledge of the shoplots, recently. This issue was initially published in the Hotline under the heading “Clean up cantilever and stop littering!” on Nov 16. A concerned shop owner there brought the perennial issue to Hotline not too long ago in the hope that the relevant authority can put a stop to the littering which were done by the folks living upstairs. Apart from causing eye sores, apparently the rubbish, especially plastic food wrappers, were causing blockage to the down pipes on the concrete ledge.   A City Hall spokeswoman, when contacted, said it had met with most of the tenants during a surprise inspection there recently. “They were given advice on the best way to throw their garbage, apart from warning each of them not to throw any rubbish even cigarette butt through their windows or balcony.

“Each of them can be compounded up to RM500 if they ignored our initial warning,” she said, adding that dirtying any public places is an offence as stipulated under its Anti Litter By-Law 2005, which offender will face a compound of between RM20 and RM500. CHRIS, the complainant, said all kinds of rubbish were scattered on the structure concerned which could not be seen from the ground floor. “I noticed rain water had started to accumulate in that area probably because the rubbish had clogged up the drain outlets. “This shouldn’t have happened as Aedes mosquitoes will breed in that clear and still water,” he added. He hoped the City Hall and other related government agencies would step in to put a stop to such matter.

“I think it is time to pressure the litterbugs to clear the mess that they have created in the first place, apart from issuing them a hefty compound,” he added.   (OV)
