PAPAR: Works on the planned Kadayan Complex Building is expected to begin by end of this year in Sipitang, said Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob.

Yusof said several sites have been identified for the establishment of the complex especially areas concentrated with Kadayan people, such as in Mesapol Sipitang. “The funds are currently being raised and that works to build the complex will be done in stages based on the funds acquired”, he said.

He said the complex is aimed at not only as a centre for the people to use but also to encourage them into using the structure for their participation in the tourism sector.

“The complex will be a centre that has a hall and field where sports, wedding, and courses, among others to be held.

“With tourism booming, we want Kadayans to take part in it and the complex will synergise (for the Kadayans) to promote tourism products for both domestic and international tourists.

“We have yet to determine the total cost for the project but with the funds that we have, we will carry out the building’s establishment through phases,” he said at the Sabah Kadayan Association (Paadian) dinner, here, Saturday night. Even before the buildings completion, he urged Kadayans to play their role and be daring enough to take up the challenge to ensure that the race and culture will be well known by producing their own products such as handicrafts or traditional food.

For the dinner, he said, was Paadian’s annual highlight event organised in turns by the association in different zones.

Yusof who is also the Paadian President said that it is aimed at celebrating and cultures of the Kadayan people as one of the many ethnics in Sabah as well as pushing them forward to contribute in the State’s development in terms of culture and tourism.

“Through the association we ask for the Kadayan community to step forward along with the developments in their respective areas as well as Sabah and contribute to the State’s development particularly in enriching the cultures,” he added.
