SIPITANG: Sipitang Member of Parliament, Hafez Yamani Musa, is proposing to the Government, especially the Tourism Ministry, to develop Long Pasia as one of the tourist destinations for hiking.
He said looking at the hilly terrain and natural beauty of the area, the place possesses great attraction for tourism and should have a facility for sports such as hiking and so on.

“Hiking activity, for example, is among the most popular activities here, not only among Sabahans but also Sarawakians and Bruneians.
“It would be great for the State Tourism Ministry to list Long Pasia in the State Tourism calendar as one of tourist destination in the State,” he said when officiating the Mountain Sinipung Melena Trekking Long Pasia 2019, accompanied by Lumadan Assemblyman Matbali Musah here, Tuesday.
Hafez said the visitors not only come for hiking but also to see the natural beauty of the area which is filled with flora and fauna.
He said it would give a positive economic impact to the government and also benefit and create employment opportunities for the youth here.

“From Sipitang Town to Sinipung Melena hill will take about four hours via more challenging route.
“Therefore, the Tourism Ministry needs to provide necessary infrastructures such as setting up Tourism Centre by establishing restaurant and accommodation facilities in the village,” he said.
The programme, organised by the Sipitang Bersatu and Keadilan parties, stopped at Kg Meligan.
Hafez and Matbali also presented donations to several churches in conjunction with the Christmas celebration.
Meanwhile, in BEAUFORT, more exposure on traditional games should be provided to the young generation, said Hafez.
“They should be exposed to such games to ensure their continuity,” he said when officiating a “gasing” (traditional spinning top) competition at Kampung Karangan, Tuesday.
He also commended the efforts of the local youths in organizing the competition.
“Such activity is timely and the young generation can also be taught ways to make ‘gasing’ traditionally.
“Moreover, most youths had forgotten traditional games like ‘gasing’.”
He added, youths now are more affixed to their smart gadgets which could affect their education.
On the competition, he said, it might be held in a small-scale but it can attract a bigger participation if it is promoted well.
“Gasing is not only played by the Kedayan and Bruneians but also in Sarawak and the peninsula,” he said.
He also said the request from the locals for the construction of a ‘gasing’ arena will be put into consideration.
“The government has always been concerned with the needs of the people.”
