Tambadau suffer injury blow
Maxsius dislocated his shoulder during the match against Persija on Thursday.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Tambadaus’ Maxsius Musa suffered a dislocated shoulder during the team’s 0-2 loss to Persija in their second Group B match in the East Java Governor Cup competition at Stadium Kanjuruhan, Malang on Thursday.

The unfortunate incident came as a huge blow to the squad in their preparation for the start of the Super League which is less than a month away.

This followed earlier cautions from Sabah Football Association (Safa) President Datuk Peter Anthony who called on the team to avoid any injury especially to their key players before their opening match against Police on March 1.

Team manager Henry Saimpon said on Friday the midfielder will need at least a month rest to recover as a result of the injury.

“Maxsius had to be taken out in the second half and sent to a private hospital in Malang following a collision with a Persija player during the match on Thursday.

“He then complained of pain on the shoulder and had difficulty to lift up his left arm after the discharge.

“Another trip to the hospital later then it was found out from the X-ray result that he had dislocated his shoulder,” he said.

Meanwhile, Henry said the reserves in the team are set to be given opportunity to play in their final group match against Persela FC at Stadium Kanjuruhan this afternoon.

“Hopefully the players will be more careful and will not get too emotional resulting in untoward incidents such as injury to themselves.” Meanwhile, the Sabah President Cup squad will have two friendly matches in Labuan this weekend starting with the match against the local Under-21 squad today (Saturday).

They will next take on a Labuan selection on Sunday before they travel to Sipitang on Monday for another friendly with the local team.

The trip was part of their pre season preparation before their opening President Cup tie against Melaka at Likas Stadium on February 24.

The team led by head coach Justin Ganai with Billyton Vun as his assistant and Dante S. Tipa as the goalkeeping coach looked impressive in their last six friendless.

They thrashed IKM 13-0 on Thursday after a 4-0 win over Kiulu FC on Monday, and in previous matches, they beat the State Youth Cup team 6-0, lost 1-3 to the senior team, beat the Prisons Department team 2-0 and drew 2-2 with City Boys.
