LABUAN: While it is good news that the government has allowed more sectors to operate during the extended Movement Control Order (MCO) period, it is ridiculous for the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) to stipulate that these sectors need to go online at the Ministry website www.nito.gov.my to apply for approval.
“Barber shops, opticals and even hardware are small enterprises with small turnover and mostly run by simple and ordinary, folks who are not computer savvy.
“To impose condition of approval subject of application online would result in many not operating despite given the green light by the Government,” said activist Datuk Patrick Sindhu.
He said these sectors should be excluded and approval given automatically.
“Requirement for approval should be imposed on big enterprises. We hope the Ministry would clarify this.”
Patrick also noted that while opening up more sectors guidelines also needed to be reviewed such as restriction on the number of people in a privately owned car to one person in a car. He said the fact had been overlooked that a parent need to drive his children to the barber shop and this will mean more than one person per car.
He said at certain roadblocks, the SOP was strict while in others not so. “So this need to be emphasized to ensure that parent sending their children to barber shops or saloon are allowed without any problems for the driver.”
He said only through relaxations of guidelines would the newly opened sectors be able to benefit.
He said it was a good thing that barber shops were allowed to operate as otherwise everyone would be walking around looking like hippies.
