KUNAK: The supply of glutinous rice in many retail outlets here has been declining and some are out of stock.
A check by Daily Express on several business premises, Saturday, found that most suppliers had stopped sending glutinous rice.
“It’s been a long time since the supply has been delivered here. Most of the supply are from Tawau and the suppliers may have difficulty sending them to Kunak because Tawau is now in the red zone,” said one of the vendors at Kunak Plaza.
Traders at the Sapang and Sedco Buildings also said glutinous rice supply in their premises had run out.
“We do not know when the supply will be sent here. Many people are looking for glutinous rice. Ramadan is also approaching,” said a trader.
Like previous years, items such as glutinous rice are in high demand ahead of the month of Ramadan and Hari Raya. The majority of retailers in Kunak depend on Tawau’s suppliers.
Meanwhile, only one exit and one entry route for vehicles is open for those who want to go to Kunak General Market, here.
The approach, among other things, makes it easier for security personnel to monitor the movement of vehicles.
A team comprising members of the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) has been on duty at the Jalan Jaya Baru entrance, the main entrance to the Kunak General Market since the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) phase two.
Meanwhile, all drivers are required to park their vehicles in the parking lot area outside the market.
Drivers cannot use the closed road next to the Community Hall here.
District Police Chief Supt Baharin Md Tahir on Saturday conducted a check on the closed road.
Police have also installed yellow ribbons in certain areas here.
